SOAK UP THE SUN
This month’s Everyday Runway column suits up with some swoon worthy selections to stay safe when out in the sun.

Who knew that sun-protective clothing and accessories could be both functional and stylish?

I found a few fabulous must-haves, and just in time for Skin Cancer Awareness Month! We all need to be mindful about protecting our skin from the sun’s rays, but it’s even more critical when you’re undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.

“I started UV Skinz after losing my 32-year-old husband to melanoma and being left to raise our three little boys on my own,” explains UV Skinz founder Rhonda Sparks.

”This experience gave me the drive and determination to bring products to the market that can help families live sun safe,” she continues. “Although I know many customers are purchasing our products for sun damage prevention, many others also wear our products while using certain medications or during chemotherapy and radiation treatments as these can cause an increase in sun sensitivity.”

Bottom line? Whether you’re currently in treatment or not, there’s no need to sacrifice style when it comes to functional fashion pieces that provide UV protection. In fact, these sunny day essentials are going to give you the sun protective confidence and style that you deserve!

It’s Very Black and White

I’m loving this particular ensemble from UV Skinz. Their hooded water jacket in white ($66.95) and classic swim Jammerz in black paradise ($56.95) make the perfect pair. Both items are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, so that’s a pretty solid seal of approval!

The Ultimate Cover-up

When it comes to sun protection and fashion, Cabana Life is one of my all-time faves! This navy tunic with white trim ($120)

offers that quintessential nautical look that never goes out of style. Whether you’re hitting the beach or sitting poolside, this cover-up has got you covered with its UPF 50+ built right in.

Ooh La La

This Cabana Life Tulum off-the-shoulder dress ($118) is their number one bestselling silhouette. Turn heads and protect yourself from the sun? Yes, please!

Bathing Beauty

It’s off the shoulder. It’s black. And it’s a one piece. This stunning swimsuit ($80) not only fits like a glove, but it’s also got UPF 50 sun protection, a sewn-in soft cup bra and an adjustable strap for the perfect fit. Thank you Land’s End for bringing us this beauty at just the right price!

Hats Off To You!

Last but certainly not least, let’s top it off with a great sun hat.  Check out this women’s convertible roll-up Shelby shapeable poolside hat with UPF 50+ by Coolibar ($59).

This truly unique sun hat offers a wired brim allowing you to customize your coverage according to the position of the sun, ultimately blocking damaging UV rays from ever reaching the delicate skin on your face and neck. You’re welcome!

I hope you feel inspired to pick up some sun protective summer fashion this season. As you can see, there’s no reason to sacrifice style for sun safety when there are so many great options out there! Happy shopping!
